An Interview With LSA’s Melina Gonzalez & Brenna Moore
On June’s first episode of Catholic Charities’ JustLove Live show, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan interviews Melina Gonzalez, Community & Individual Engagement Manager at LSA, and Professor Brenna Moore, LSA Board Member, about their experiences and insight on the East Harlem community.
Melina shares her powerful story of immigrating to New York City from Mexico City as a teenager and later finding support and community at Little Sisters of Assumption as a young mom. Then, Brenna discusses Mutuality in El Barrio: Stories of the Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Service, a new book written by she and Dr. Carey Kasten, which pays homage to East Harlem’s immigrant mothers who have crossed the border and become leaders and integral community members. The book explores LSA from its founding to the present, highlighting stories of the resilience of the women who come through our doors, such as our own Melina Gonzalez, and the significance of being part of a community that supports them.
