The Family Support Services and Food Pantry program help families meet their immediate need for food and address the longer-term issues of living in poverty. Our advocates educate families about their rights and empower them to access needed services and resources.
We assist families with public benefits applications (including online SNAP enrollment), refer them to LSA and non-LSA programs, offer immigration legal appointments and help tenants avoid eviction and get needed repairs. Visitors to our food pantry receive fresh and healthy food choices after meeting with an LSA advocate who evaluates the full extent of their needs.
LSA is proud to be a part of Action NYC, a citywide initiative through the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs to connect immigrant New Yorkers with free and confidential immigration legal consultations in all five boroughs. LSA partners with Action NYC to do outreach in Northern Manhattan, including East Harlem and Washington Heights.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, through Food Bank for NYC, helps New Yorkers who earn $60,000 or less to complete their taxes. Advocates at LSA work with Food Bank for NYC to connect clients with volunteers who assist them with preparing and submitting their tax returns.
