LSA Family Health Service is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of parents and their young children through a variety of supports designed to foster healthy development, emotional support, and community connection.
Benefits & Entitlement Screening and Navigation Support
LSA is committed to ensuring that families have access to the resources they need. Our staff assists families in understanding and applying for various benefits and entitlements, including WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), childcare vouchers, pre-k and early head start applications, and health insurance programs. By providing information and navigation support, we empower families to access critical support services that can alleviate financial burdens and improve health and well being.
Home Based Support
One of our core offerings are in-home services, where trained staff provide personalized support directly in the homes of parents with young children. These visits allow for tailored guidance on parenting, child development, home safety and health education. Home visitors track the child’s development by administering assessments and they help families navigate the challenges of early parenthood, offering advice on breastfeeding, nutrition, safe sleep and infant care. Additionally, they assess social factors of health and provide resources, including critical parenting gear through Good+, to address any challenges, ensuring a holistic approach to family health and well-being.
Support Groups
Understanding the importance of community and how social isolation affects well being, LSA offers support groups that foster connections among parents. These groups create safe spaces for sharing experiences, challenges, and triumphs related to parenting. Facilitated by experienced staff, the support groups focus on topics such as postpartum wellness, parenting strategies, and sharing resources. Mothers benefit not only from emotional support but also from the camaraderie of others facing similar challenges, reinforcing a sense of belonging and community.
Group engagement is supported by home based services and incentivized with supplies from the Good+ Foundation and other sources.
Nutrition and Health Workshops
As part of United Way of NYC’s Connect2Care Project, LSA provides nutrition education to pregnant women in a Lunch and Learn format on a quarterly basis. Workshops and other events will be offered on a regular basis in partnership with health organizations such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Mount Sinai Hospital, and others.
Supporting the whole family
Through specialized education, home visitations, support groups, play and socialization groups, assistance with benefits and entitlements, and nutrition and health workshops, LSA Family Health Service is dedicated to supporting parents and their young children at every stage of their journey. Our programs not only aim to enhance individual family health but also to strengthen community ties, fostering an environment where all families can flourish.
